DAWN LI
abbey park high school Dawn Li is a Grade 10 student at Abbey Park High School in Oakville. She has been strongly passionate about environmentalism since elementary school and it’s what intrigued her about Urban Planning. She believes that the lack of awareness surrounding Urban Design is one of the major man-made problems impacting the environment, specifically climate change. She enjoys spending time biking and taking walks on the trails, photography, videography and going out with friends.

crescent school I’m a Grade 12 Student at Crescent School. I have a couple of things that I personally love which I am helping lead such as Architecture Club, Model UN, and Outreach Council. This is my second year in the 1Up Competition as last year was incredibly successful and the school was excited to run a club at Crescent again! I can’t wait to help work towards solving important design issues and I am looking forward to meeting and collaborating with all the other members soon!

I am a French Immersion student at Iroquois Ridge High School with an interest in the field of urban planning, as well as anything related to mathematics. In my free time, I enjoy snowboarding, hiking, reading, and playing the violin as a member of the Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Milliken Mills High School Madison is a current high school student at Milliken Mills High School. As an aspiring cultural journalist, she is most interested in the connections between people and the environments they occupy, as well as how these relationships can drive localised, community-based solutions. She appreciates the real-world applicable urban planning and community-building opportunities 1UP provides, as well as the critical thinking she has developed while being a part of the program for the past two years. In her free time, you can find Madison at the pool training as a lifesaving sport athlete, or reading feminist literature.

I love to hike and try new foods with those close to me. I am also interested in architecture and urban planning, which prompted me to join this community where I plan to make a positive impact in my environment and those around me.

I am passionate about architecture as well as engineering, and am eager to build on the hard work my 1UP chapter put into our schools "Design-Builders" project last year. Some of my hobbies include playing/listening to music, reading, playing sports, and watching movies. I cannot wait to see where our project goes and what we can learn as a community with the help of 1UP! :)))

I'm a grade 11 student interested in architecture and sustainability, having idolized architect Bjarke Ingels since his work piqued my interest in grade 8. Some of my hobbies include watching movies, travelling, model-making and working out. I'm grateful for the opportunity 1UP has provided me, and I hope to use it to make a lasting mark in my community.

I've always been interested in the environment/climate and helping out within the community. My interest in nature started with Wild Krats and National Geographic documentaries. In my free time, I like playing video games, listening to music, walking, reading, and watching docuseries/documentaries. I'm thankful for the opportunity to start a 1UP chapter at my school, and I'm looking forward to what's to come.

Things I enjoy doing to pass time include listening to music, thrifting, as well as going out with friends. If you don't see me at McDonald's eating a big mac meal I'll most likely be on a run or playing ultimate frisbee. She hopes to make a difference in her school as a 1UP Fellow by making spaces useful, accessible and fun through urban design. In her spare time, she enjoys reading obscure Wikipedia articles, doodling whatever comes to mind, and playing with her cats. She is very excited to realize her ideas and start her own chapter at Marc Garneau!

I enjoy animated shows, alternative music, making art, and best of all to learn about architecture and urban planning. I love looking at the bigger picture of city structure: Encouraging accessibility in public spaces, exploring the relationship between cities and the environment, designing effective spaces, and everything else to do with city building.
